Imlay SECO-150 Dry Rope Bag

Imlay SECO-150 Dry Rope Bag

$60.00

Imlay SECO Dry Rope Bags - SECO Ropebags are lighter, simpler versions of our classic rope bags, for when light and simple are higher priorities than optimum performance, durability and floatation. Optimized for DRY canyons.

See chart for sizes and the ropes they fit.

SECO ropebags are made from durable 1000d air-textured nylon fabric. They have no foam and minimal drainage. They do not float. They stay open reasonably well for stuffing, but not like our Lexus-grade rope bags. These are Corollas. And they will not be as durable. But they do weigh (and cost, and bulk!) a lot less.

PROTIP: Write your name and phone number on the inside of the drawcord sleeve with a sharpie.

SECO-150 Specs

Weight: SECO-150: 10.2 ounces / 288 grams

Dimensions: 12-1/2" tall by 9.25" diameter at the top - 11 liters

“ I used the new rope bag I had last weekend and loved it! The opening was wide and hung open nicely, making bagging quite easy to stuff. Light and strong, nice drainage, tie down spot at the bottom - eliminated all the issues I had trying to use a potshot as a rope bag and the extra weight of a traditional bag. The perfect rope bag! I will try to spread the word far and wide!”

“I would haul this rope bag 5000 feet down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back out again. That's how light it is (and how much I hate not having a rope bag).” Ali White, Grand Canyoneer

Imlay Canyonero 9.2mm Rope
from $1.21

We applied the Sheath-Heavy design that worked so well for the Canyon Fire to our 9mm rope, to get a somewhat bigger, somewhat stouter and better-handling rope — Canyonero! The sheath is 52% of the rope, so there is 8% more sheath than core. It is firmly woven for longest life, and uses 100% polyester to minimize water absorption. A nice handling, long-lasting static rope that works great, especially for heavier canyoneers and for Class C canyons with harsh rock, as in Ouray, Colorado.

The Canyonero is longer lasting (than the 8mm and 8.3mm) for 10% more weight. We also gave it a few more core strands, so it has a rated strength of 5000 lb.

Super Pull String - Arete UHMWPE 1/8" x 200 and 300 feet
from $15.00

When every ounce or cubic inch matters - this is the ultra-light solution. The UHMWPE gives this braided string a tensile strength of 2200 lbs - way strong. Hard to handle (hold onto), ties not so well and is a pain to stuff. It is very light and very compact. Choose your tools wisely. 1/8" UHMWPE braided string for use as a Fiddle Pull String. Colors: assorted, no choice.

(Price decrease March 2025 due to decreased cost from the NEW supplier.)

Hard to Handle: such that stuffing the Amsteel back in the bag is called “Milking the Kitty”. Using without a specialized bag would be excruciating! We make the SECO-050 for this (both lengths) and BG-Gear/Luke also makes a very different specialized bag, which you might like.

Imlay FiddleStick
$20.00

The FiddleStick is an advanced canyoneering anchor tool. It is a new approach to retrievable anchoring, opening up a wider range of possible anchors, and making it possible to descend more canyons and leave nothing behind (aka “ghosting”). As an ADVANCED anchor tool, it requires skill, practice and understanding to use safely. Even when used properly, it has the possibility of failing, resulting in severe injury or death, or being stranded in a canyon with your ropes hopelessly stuck.

I was selling both my FiddleStick and BluuGnome’s Smooth Operator, but now the Smoothie can only be ordered directly from Luke at BG-Gear.com

Both are generally used with an Amsteel pull string that pairs (threesomes?) with the SECO-050 rope bag.
