Imlay Canyonero 9.2mm Rope

Imlay Canyonero 9.2mm Rope
We applied the Sheath-Heavy design that worked so well for the Canyon Fire to our 9mm rope, to get a somewhat bigger, somewhat stouter and better-handling rope — Canyonero! The sheath is 52% of the rope, so there is 8% more sheath than core. It is firmly woven for longest life, and uses 100% polyester to minimize water absorption. A nice handling, long-lasting static rope that works great, especially for heavier canyoneers and for Class C canyons with harsh rock, as in Ouray, Colorado.
The Canyonero is longer lasting (than the 8mm and 8.3mm) for 10% more weight. We also gave it a few more core strands, so it has a rated strength of 5000 lb.
While we have always added a foot or two to rope lengths, our pre-cut rope is now 5% longer than the stated length. A "200 foot rope" will be at least 210 feet, usually a foot or two longer. Check out some rope shrinkage tests and rope absorption observations! This rope (and many others) performs best if you pre-shrink it. Soak it in water for an hour or so, then hang to dry. Repeat two times more. This will shrink the sheath just a bit, binding the sheath and core, decreasing sheath slippage.
Available in pre-cut lengths of 120, 200, 300 and 600 feet. Pre-cut lengths of 240 and 360 also available, but expect a one-week delay in shipping. When other lengths make it onto this list, they are ACTUAL lengths.
Other lengths, ordering by-the-foot, are 10% more expensive than ordering the pre-cut lengths. Do NOT expect a choice of colors for either the 240, 360 or by-the-foot options, but feel free to state a preference.

Imlay Canyon Rope 8mm is firmly woven for longest life, and uses 100% polyester to minimize water absorption. A nice handling static rope that works great for canyoneering. This is our lightest rope, intended for those times when lightness and economy are important and durability is not. It is not intended as an every-day rope.
The Canyon Fire rope is roughly 10% heavier and costlier, and at least twice as durable.
8mm rope is on the 5% longer program like the other ropes.

When every ounce or cubic inch matters - this is the ultra-light solution. The UHMWPE gives this braided string a tensile strength of 2200 lbs - way strong. Hard to handle (hold onto), ties not so well and is a pain to stuff. It is very light and very compact. Choose your tools wisely. 1/8" UHMWPE braided string for use as a Fiddle Pull String. Colors: assorted, no choice.
(Price decrease March 2025 due to decreased cost from the NEW supplier.)
Hard to Handle: such that stuffing the Amsteel back in the bag is called “Milking the Kitty”. Using without a specialized bag would be excruciating! We make the SECO-050 for this (both lengths) and BG-Gear/Luke also makes a very different specialized bag, which you might like.
