Repairing the Vinyl Bottom of Imlay Packs

Most of our packs use 18 oz Vinyl on the bottoms and side-bottoms, and while it is fairly tough, it does get chewed up. The good news is that it can be repaired. By you.

Ask, and we will send you some vinyl scraps, which you can glue-on like butterfly bandages with the HH-66 glue. Clean the vinyl (both sides) with rubbing alcohol before trying to glue it. You will want to fill the bottom of the pack very tightly, glue stuff on then wrap it up tight to hold them in place until the glue sets.

(from Tyler Miller):

-Rounding off the corners on the patches helps considerably with long term durability and preventing peel up.

-Lightly sand and abrade the back of the patch material for better adhesion (the sandstone has done this for you on the pack).

-Coat both surfaces with the HH-66 and let it dry just a bit, until tacky. Try to get something hard behind the patch and use a roller if possible — not always possible for complex rounded seams.

HH-66 glue is the only stuff I know that really works on the Vinyl. It is available at Home Depot (etc.)

How long will it last? Well...

Thanks to Ann H for the pictures and for following the protocol carefully.
