Main Fork of Leprechaun Canyon, North Wash

Love these beautiful fall mornings - especially since "early" means 9 a.m. Destinations for the day were West Leprechaun Canyon for the Arhart clan, and the Main Fork of Leprechaun Canyon for Dave and me. We hiked into the mouth of Leprechaun Canyon and then up the buttress.

Rodger-dodger - always having too much fun in a canyon.

Upper ends of the Leps - West Lep in front of us here, and Main Lep over that ridge/buttress to the right.

Lower end of the Leps - West immediately below us, Main over the sunlit ridge, East over the next ridge.

Deadman anchor at the head of West Leprechaun. What's wrong with this picture??

Jane (2) rapping down into the slot.

Deb rappels, Roger supervisors.

Rodger-Dodger "rapping" down in... well, would you believe, self-belayed downclimb?

After the troops had descended, Davey and I re-worked the anchor so that A: the two deadmen were close to equalized and B. the rapid link reached to over the lip, to minimize rope grooves. (And yes, two official ZAC canyon guides in a canyon = a lot of anchor rebuilding).

David Buckingham - always good for a big smile.

Top of Main Leprechaun - Davey traversing over to the rocks that provide the anchor for the first rap.

A downclimb somewhere in the upper canyon...

"We're really in it now!!"

More happy slotiness (there's plenty of that!)

Tom on rap, the 2nd rap.

and towards the end of the rap. Aaron downclimbed this???!! yee haw.

Dave enjoying one of the wide spots in the canyon.

Dave even happier to be near the end, in the boulders above Belfast Boulevard.

The Circus is in Town!!! Big pile of colorful webbing extracted from yesterday's canyon.

The Sinners are in Town!!! Big pile of used Barly Pop vessels from the previous evenings festivities.

Flowers - a few remaining blooms kinda freeze-dried. Rabbit Brush, this one, probably.

In the Sandthrax campsite - lots of this:

Four-wing saltbush (Atriplex canescens) (Goosefoot Family, Chenopodiaceae)

Some elegant, empty seedpods of... something.
