Argos 4mm Neoprene Sock (pair)

Argos 4mm Neoprene Sock (pair)

30.00

Canyoneering USA offers these killer Neo Socks in cooperation with Zion Adventure Company (ZAC).

ZAC worked with Argos to create this one-of-a-kind canyoneering sock and the results are so specialized that you'll never use anything else again. Our design is based on years of outfitting hikers to travel through the Zion Narrows river walk and other canyon adventures. Pair the booties with canyoneering boots for even more specialized performance. (These are not the same as regular Argos 5mm sock and do not work well for finning.)

Similar to a wetsuit, neoprene socks are designed to keep your feet warm and comfortable in cold, wet conditions. To do this, a thin layer of water is sandwiched between your bare foot and the sock itself. Your own body heat acts to warm that trapped water to insulate your foot throughout the adventure.

Special features of the Argos 4 mm Canyon Bootie include:

  • High-density foam toe and footbed offer support, shock absorption, and abrasion resistance

  • Form fitting design creates a next-to-skin barrier to prevent blistering and keep feet warm

  • Five-panel design comfortably fits a wide range of foot sizes

  • Reinforced stitching around the footbed for long life

  • Thin layer of rubber on the bottom provides traction inside your shoes

  • Streamlined ankle design keeps sand and rocks out

  • 4 millimeter thickness provides three-season warmth even in the coldest canyon water

Sizing and Fit:

Neoprene socks come in medium width and unisex sizing. If you have a wide or high volume foot, or are between sizes, you should choose the bigger of the two choices. The socks should fit comfortably, without your toes or any other part of the foot feeling cramped inside the sock. Any cramping may cause decreased circulation, which can lead to cold feet, blisters, or complaining.

Tom Says:

These are really good socks, built for use as rentals so they are really durable. The fit is good across the size range, though people with low-volume (skinny) feet will find they fit better. They are WARM. For summer canyons, with not much water, I wear tight-knit, heavy wool socks (Darn Tough brand preferred) with a Costco heavy wool sock over that. For summer canyons with some water more continuously, I pull the NEOSport 2mm sock over the one wool sock. For Imlay, Heaps, Kolob, Boundary - continuously wet canyons - in summer, I wear the Argos over one wool sock. For the New Year's Black Hole, I wear the wool sock under the Argos, with a waterproof sock inbetween.

With more experience, I have found the roughness of the seams on the inside will sometimes chew up my (rather delicate) feet if I wear them for more than say 2 hours at a stretch. Now I wear a wool sock inside them to provide a bit more buffer. If you are not IN water, if your feet and socks are not wet, neoprene socks will be uncomfortable. Wear wool!
