The Canyons E-Group
The Canyons Group is a forum for sharing ideas and information among an international community of canyoneering, canyoning and slot canyon enthusiasts. Membership in the group is open to all. The Canyons E Group is a 'moderated' forum, hoping to avoid degeneration into vicious name-calling and venting of bile by having a few policies in place to prevent this. E Group Policies are available HERE.
While not formally associated with the American Canyoneering Association (ACA), the Canyons E Group supports the ACA in its mission to disseminate training and technique to canyoneers. E Group emphasis is on technical canyoneering, rather than canyon hiking.
Escalante Service Project
The OCA and Canyons E Group are sponsoring two service trips in Fall 2004. We will hike in to a basecamp in the Escalante and work on the Russian Olive Eradication Project with Ranger Bill Wolverton.
Service Trips are usually arranged through an outfitter or organization, and cost a fair penny. This trip is less formally organized. Participants supply their own food and gear, and find their own way to the trailhead. We will use the E Group to make arrangements. Equipment necessary for the work will be provided by Bill.
Detailed information about the project is available here:

The Zion Canyoneering Coalition is dedicated to canyon access while conserving the canyon environment. The ZCC is fighting for more reasonable access to Zion's canyons. Find out what it is all about and join at the ZCC Website. |
Slot Festivals
The OCA 'sponsors' occasional gatherings of slot enthusiasts in the canyon country which some have derisively called "Drunken Slot Orgies". Not technically accurate - most of the drinking takes place back in camp, as do, uh, some of the other activities. These gatherings are for meeting new friends, heading down new canyons that you might not get the chance to do otherwise, sharing techniques and discussing issues of interest to the canyoning community. Slot Festivals are open to the public, but usually participation is limited and requires pre-registration - so check back here or at the Canyons Group to see the latest schedule.
