Took a little trip up the KT Road. Darn hot out. Been dry for 4 weeks. But up here at 6800 feet, there was a nice display of flowers out.
First up, a bit of the old Lewis Flax - Linum lewisii - Flax family Linaceae
Not the best exposure, but here's what the plant looks like.
Seed pods on the Flax.
| I guess we'd call the flowers 1" across.
Ubiquitous Hoary Zionaster - Heterotheca villosa (pursh) shinn.
Lots and lots of this around.
Red flowers are not my specialty - but this one practically bit me on the butt.
Wyoming Paintbrush - Castilleja linariifolia. / Figwort/Snapdragon family - Scrophulariaceae
Derrick was kind enough to point out that the linariaefolia is the paintbrush that grows this tall in the Park - other species being MUCH shorter.
This fine specimen seems to be 22" tall.
Yellow Salsify - Tragopogan dubius - Aster family - Asteraceae
Most of these guyz had closed up for the morning, but there's one hiding back in the deep cover. Ha! Big fat seed heads and closed flowers, mostly.
